The First Time Industry in Bontang Utilizes LNG

Bontang – Bontang has been known as the location for LNG processing, but only on Saturday (14/04) did the industry in Bontang use Liquefied Natural Gas or LNG for the first time. Sunday (15/04), Pertamina Gas Subholding through Pertagas Niaga supplied LNG to PT Energi Unggul Persada, an industry engaged in palm oil processing in Bontang Lestari, Bontang, East Kalimantan. The utilization of LNG illustrates the increasing awareness of the use of energy that is more environmentally friendly, especially in industry. “This is an achievement

EUP will use LNG amounting to 462 MMBTUD and will increase along with the expansion of the plant. LNG is supplied from Pertamina Gas' Filling Station Plant 26 in the PT Badak LNG area which is then delivered using ISOtank trucks. Arriving at the factory, the LNG is then regasified to turn back into gas. "This LNG is used for the needs of factory boilers. We calculate that the use of LNG produces a cost efficiency of around 37% when compared to using other fuels,” explained the General Manager of PT EUP, Hendri Chandra. The use of LNG by the EUP is expected to be followed by other industries so that the use of clean energy will be more widespread.

Pertagas Niaga has been a pioneer in LNG trading for industrial supplies for both factories and public facilities such as hotels, hospitals, restaurants and cafes since 2015 with an average volume of 12,000 MMBTU. LNG supply is one of the solutions to meet energy needs for areas that have not been reached by gas pipeline infrastructure, one of which is Eastern Indonesia. Utilization of LNG, apart from being a transitional energy to green energy, is also part of efforts to achieve equitable distribution and independence of domestic energy.
